The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces are conducting intense military operations to capture the military council’s Thaybawboe camp located in the Thai-Myanmar border area of Myawaddy Township, Karen State, according to revolutionary military sources. The fighting, which began on June 2, has intensified with the military council responding with continuous airstrikes to defend their position.
During the ongoing battle, the military council has been conducting persistent aerial bombardment while other military outposts provide artillery support. If Thaybawboe camp falls to revolutionary forces, only four military council camps will remain along the Thai-Myanmar border: Ukayittha, Walay Phyu Hakone, Thitaylae Camp, and Hteekaphlae Camp.
The fighting has forced 507 local civilians to flee to Thailand, where they are currently taking shelter in three different locations. The Karen National Union (KNU) has successfully captured several military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border during March, April, and May, including Pulutoo, Khlayday, Thawbikwee, Mawphatho Camp, Thalay Camp, Maela, Black Do, Mawkhi, Bogyoke Aung San Camp, Kanele Camp, and Shwe Aye Myaing Camp.
