The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) joint forces have successfully captured the Bogyoke Aung San military camp, situated on the highest hill in Myawaddy Township along the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State, on the morning of May 30. This marks the first successful capture of this strategically important hilltop military position near the Waw Lay strategic camp.
The offensive began at 4 AM, with KNLA and KNDO joint forces launching a sustained attack using drones for continuous bombardment. According to revolutionary sources, the military council troops were unable to maintain their defensive positions and eventually fled the camp. This victory is particularly significant as the KNLA had attempted to capture this camp multiple times over several decades but had never succeeded before. The current operation managed to secure the heavily fortified hilltop position within just hours of engagement.
The ongoing military operations along the Thai-Myanmar border have forced 533 local civilians to seek refuge across the border in Thailand. These clashes followed the successful capture of the Kanele camp on May 28. After securing the Kanele camp, where the Karen national flag was raised, the resistance forces proceeded to launch this attack on the Bogyoke Aung San camp. The rapid succession of these military victories represents a significant shift in the territorial control of the border region and demonstrates the increasing capabilities of the Karen armed forces in their resistance against the military council’s presence in the area.
