The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) forces intercepted and engaged military council troops who had previously fled to Thailand and were attempting to attack Thanganyinaung strategic hill. The intense fighting occurred in Myawaddy Township, with exchanges of fire continuing throughout the night. The military column, comprised of soldiers from Light Infantry Battalion 275 who had previously fled to Thailand and were subsequently returned, attempted to recapture the strategic Thanganyinaung position.
The KNLA allied forces intercepted the military column near Shwe Myar Sandi New Ward’s western bridge in Myawaddy Township. The ensuing battle was marked by heavy artillery exchanges between both sides, with fighting continuing throughout the night according to KNLA military sources. The intensity of the combat was evidenced by continuous explosions and gunfire exchanges that persisted until dawn. The military council troops had reorganized their forces using returned soldiers from LIB 275 specifically for this operation to retake the strategic position.
Additionally, KNLA-led alliance forces launched artillery attacks against the military council’s Light Infantry Battalion 275 base in Myawaddy. This secondary attack was initiated around 10:30 PM in response to the military council’s attempt to form and deploy new offensive columns. The LIB 275 base has particular strategic significance, as it was previously captured by KNLA allied forces in April 2024, before being reoccupied by military council forces during a subsequent withdrawal. The current situation represents an ongoing struggle for control of this strategically important position, with both sides engaging in intensive combat operations to secure their military objectives in the region.
