The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee has officially announced intense fighting between the military council forces advancing from Dawei city towards Myitta town and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in Tanintharyi Region. According to the official statement, the battles that occurred on August 18 and 19 resulted in at least 20 military council troops killed and the destruction of 8 military supply vehicles.
The fighting involved coordinated operations by KNLA Brigade-4, Battalion 12, Battalion 10, and allied revolutionary forces, who conducted ambush attacks at two different locations. The revolutionary forces primarily targeted the military council’s supply convoy during the engagement, successfully capturing weapons, ammunition, military equipment, and supplies from two military vehicles. The resistance forces demonstrated significant tactical effectiveness in their operations against the advancing military column.
During the battles, the military council responded with airstrikes, deploying three fighter aircraft that conducted approximately seven bombing runs on the conflict areas. However, despite this air support, the military council forces suffered substantial losses due to the effective attacks by the revolutionary forces, as detailed in the KNU’s statement. This engagement represents a significant battle that demonstrated the military capabilities and strength of revolutionary forces in the Tanintharyi region. The successful operation against the military council’s forces highlights the growing effectiveness of resistance operations in the area.
