The Thai military has officially announced that the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) joint forces have launched an attack on the military council’s Mor Pho Kay military camp near the Thai-Myanmar border on May 19. During the outbreak of fighting, more than one hundred local civilians were forced to flee across the Thaung Yin River into Thailand for safety.
Beginning in the morning hours, KNLA and KNDO joint forces conducted drone strikes and aerial bombing operations against the Mor Pho Kay military camp. The Thai military is closely monitoring the situation along the border and providing necessary assistance to displaced civilians. Thai military and local authorities have arranged temporary shelters for the war refugees and are supplying them with basic necessities.
This attack follows the successful capture of the Mae La military camp on May 15 by the KNU forces. The KNU has successfully seized several strategically important military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border during March, April, and May, including Pu Lu Tu, Khlay Day, Thaw Bi Khee, Mor Far Thu, Ta Lay, and Mae La camps. These consecutive successful operations have significantly weakened the military council’s control in the border region.
