The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) joint forces have successfully captured the military council’s Thayagone camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement from the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1:00 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and KNLA and PDF joint forces are currently pursuing these fleeing soldiers. The resistance forces completely burned down the captured camp after securing it, as confirmed by Bo Tin Oo, the Operations Commander of People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2. This successful operation represents another step in the gradual liberation of territories from military council control, according to local observers.
The Thayagone camp was a significant military council installation in Thandaunggyi Township, used as a strategic position to maintain military council control in the region. The capture of this camp demonstrates the increasing military capabilities of revolutionary forces in the area and will contribute to the further liberation of territories from military council control, according to military analysts. The successful operation has significantly weakened the military council’s presence in the region and strengthened the position of resistance forces fighting for the restoration of democracy in Myanmar.
