The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Thayagone camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement from the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and joint KNLA-PDF forces are currently pursuing these fleeing soldiers. The captured camp was completely destroyed by fire after its seizure. Comrade Tin Oo, the Operations Commander of People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2, confirmed that they had completely taken control of the Thayagone camp at 7:30 AM on March 8.
This military victory demonstrates the continuing loss of territory under military council control and showcases the increasing military capabilities of revolutionary forces. The Thayagone camp was a significant military council position in Thandaunggyi Township, and its loss will substantially impact the military council’s strategic position in the region. The successful operation represents another step forward in the resistance movement’s efforts to dismantle military council control over various territories in Myanmar.
