The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Thayagone camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement from the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1:00 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and joint KNLA-PDF forces are currently pursuing these fleeing soldiers. The resistance forces completely burned down the captured camp after securing it, as confirmed by People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2 Commander Comrade Tin Oo. Local observers note that this victory represents another step in the gradual liberation of territories from military council control.
The Thayagone camp was a significant military council installation in Thandaunggyi Township, used to maintain the junta’s control in the region. The successful capture of this camp demonstrates the increasing military capabilities of revolutionary forces in the area and indicates the weakening control of the military council, according to analysts. This operation marks another significant victory for the resistance forces in their ongoing struggle against the military council’s oppression of civilians in Myanmar.
