The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Thayagone camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement by the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and the remaining facility was subsequently destroyed by fire by the combined KNLA and PDF forces. Captain Tin Oo, the operations commander of People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2, confirmed that they had completely secured the Thayagone military camp at 7:30 AM on March 8.
Currently, the joint KNLA and PDF forces are continuing their operations to track down the fleeing military council soldiers while ensuring the security of local civilians in the area. Military analysts note that the capture of the Thayagone camp represents the loss of a significant military council stronghold in the region and will help restrict the movement of military council forces in the area.
