The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) joint forces have successfully captured the military council’s Thabyaynyo camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement from the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and KNLA and PDF joint forces are currently pursuing these fleeing soldiers. Reports indicate that the captured camp was completely destroyed by fire. Commander Bo Tin Oo of the People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2 confirmed that they had completely secured the Thabyaynyo military camp at 7:30 AM on March 8.
This successful operation demonstrates the revolutionary forces’ growing ability to reclaim territories from military council control. The military council continues to face widespread civilian resistance across the country, with increasing instances of their troops abandoning camps and bases. These battlefield successes clearly show the public’s rejection of military council rule and their support for the resistance forces. The operation represents another significant setback for the military council in their attempts to maintain control over various regions of the country, while highlighting the increasing effectiveness of coordination between ethnic armed organizations and local defense forces in their fight against the military regime.
