The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) have successfully captured the military council’s Thabyaynyo camp in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State, resulting in the death of more than 10 military council soldiers and the seizure of significant amounts of weapons and ammunition, according to an official announcement from the Karen National Union (KNU). The battle began at 1 PM on March 7 and concluded with the complete capture of the camp on March 8.
During the battle, more than 20 military council troops fled from the camp, and combined KNLA and PDF forces are currently pursuing these fleeing soldiers. The captured camp was completely destroyed by fire after its seizure. The Operation Commander of People’s Defense Force Operation Area 2, Comrade Tin Oo, confirmed that they had completely taken control of the Thabyaynyo camp at 7:30 AM on March 8.
This military success demonstrates the revolutionary forces’ growing capability to reclaim territories from military council control. The military council continues to face widespread civilian resistance and is losing military outposts and territory across the country. The capture of the Thabyaynyo camp represents a significant achievement that reflects the military capabilities and coordinated efforts of the revolutionary forces. This operation has further weakened the military council’s presence in the region and strengthened the position of resistance forces fighting for the restoration of civilian rule in Myanmar.
