The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) allied forces have launched an intense offensive against the military council’s Infantry Battalion 24’s Than Lel camp in KNU Brigade 7 territory along the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State. Beginning early morning on May 10, the allied forces have been conducting drone strikes and firing 81mm artillery at the military camp. The military council has responded with airstrikes to defend their position. This attack follows the successful capture of the Taw Bi Kwee camp by resistance forces the previous day.
The Than Lel camp, located on the Nawteya mountain ridge east of the recently captured Taw Bi Kwee camp, has become the latest target in the ongoing offensive. Due to the intensity of the fighting, Thai authorities have implemented strict security measures along the border. All river crossing points have been closed, and Thai military forces are conducting tank patrols every two hours. Checkpoints have been established along the Mae La road, and the situation is being closely monitored by Thai military commanders, including the Naresuan Strategic Commander himself.
The fighting is taking place near Mae La village in Thailand’s That Song Yang district, raising concerns about possible artillery shells landing on Thai territory and military council soldiers potentially fleeing across the border. The Thai military has positioned forces to monitor the situation carefully, particularly given the proximity of the conflict to Thai territory. Border security sources report that both sides are employing heavy weapons, with the resistance forces using drones and artillery while the military council responds with airstrikes.
The KNU has indicated that they will continue their offensive against all military council camps in Brigade 7 territory, suggesting that fighting may spread to other locations including Maw Pho Kee camp, Kyaw Keh Hta camp, Nawthara camp, and Wan Kha Thit camp in Myawaddy Township. Local civilians have been warned to evacuate to safe areas away from the conflict zones. The fighting remains intense, and exact casualty figures from both sides cannot yet be confirmed. The ongoing offensive represents a significant escalation in the resistance forces’ campaign against military council positions along the Thai-Myanmar border area.
