The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces have successfully defeated a military council reinforcement column of over 70 troops heading to Thaybawboe camp near the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State. According to KNLA military sources, more than 30 soldiers were captured alive while many others were killed in the operation. Additionally, more than 10 soldiers fled across the border into Thailand.
The military engagement began on May 27 when the KNLA allied forces intercepted and attacked the military council reinforcement column near the DKBA headquarters at Sone Sein Myaing as they were attempting to reach Thaybawboe military camp in Myawaddy Township, Karen State. After intense fighting, by the morning of May 28, the entire military column had been defeated, with over 30 soldiers captured and numerous casualties reported among the military council forces.
Military sources confirmed that more than 10 soldiers who managed to escape fled into Thailand, where they were subsequently arrested by Thai military and defense forces. The military column had apparently attempted to approach their destination by circulating through Thai territory. The fate of the captured soldiers who fled to Thailand remains unclear as Thai authorities have not yet announced how they will handle the situation.
Meanwhile, KNLA allied forces continue to lay siege to the military council’s Thaybawboe camp and guard post positions near Thaybawboe village. In the broader Thai-Myanmar border region of Waw Lay, KNLA allied forces are maintaining continuous offensive operations against military council camps, including ongoing attacks on the Kaneley, Mawkhi, and Thay Thay Blay camps. The coordinated offensive operations by the allied forces demonstrate their sustained campaign to pressure military council positions along the border area.
