According to sources from the Karen National Union (KNU) and Thai media reports, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces have successfully captured the military council’s strategic Talay base near the Thai-Myanmar border in Hlaingbwe Township, Karen State. This military installation was a significant strategic outpost of the military council in the Thai-Myanmar border region and served as the main base for Infantry Battalion 24.
The fighting began in the early morning of May 10, with KNLA allied forces launching an intensive offensive against the Talay strategic base within KNU Brigade 7’s territory. Although the military council forces attempted to defend the base with air support, KNLA allied forces successfully captured the installation at approximately 6:10 PM on May 13. Reports indicate that some military council troops fled during the battle. The strategic importance of this base has been emphasized by KNU sources, who confirmed its capture while noting that the full extent of military casualties and weapons seized is still being assessed.
Prior to this engagement, on May 9, KNLA and People’s Defense Force (PDF) allied forces had already captured the military council’s Taw Bi Kwe outpost. Brigade 7 of the KNU continues to conduct successive operations against military council positions along the Thai-Myanmar border. Military analysts suggest that fighting may spread to other military council installations in the Myawaddy Township area, including the Maw Pho Kay, Kyaw Kay Hta, Naw Ta Ra, and Wan Kha Thit outposts. These ongoing operations represent a significant challenge to the military council’s control of the border region and demonstrate the increasing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting coordinated military operations.
