The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces have successfully captured the military council’s Shwe Aye Myaing Pagoda Hill camp located on the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State on May 29, as confirmed by KNLA military sources. This operation followed the previous night’s capture of the military council’s Kaneley camp on May 28, with forces proceeding to take the Shwe Aye Myaing Pagoda Hill camp the following morning.
The attack on Shwe Aye Myaing Pagoda Hill camp was carried out through a coordinated effort between forces withdrawing from Kaneley and troops advancing from Hsan Hseng Myaing. According to KNLA military sources, approximately 50 military council soldiers were stationed at the camp. In the previous day’s operation at Kaneley camp, which housed over 100 military council troops, more than 50 soldiers reportedly fled across the border into Thailand.
The Karen National Union (KNU) has successfully captured numerous military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border during March, April, and May. These include Pu Lu Tu, Khlay Day, Thaw Bi Khee, Maw Phar Thu, Ta Lay, May La, Maw Poe Kay, Black Do, Kaneley, and Shwe Aye Myaing camps. Currently, intense fighting continues between the military council forces and KNLA allied forces across various regions in Karen State, including Myawaddy, Three Pagodas, Kawkareik, Kyun Doe, Hpapun, and Thandaung areas.
