The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and allied forces have successfully captured the military council’s Playdoh outpost in Myawaddy Township, Karen State. The offensive operations began on May 21 along the Thai-Myanmar border, targeting various military council positions. By the afternoon of May 23, the allied forces had taken control of the Playdoh outpost located south of Myawaddy Township. However, due to continuous airstrikes by the military council, the resistance forces have not yet been able to fully secure and clear the captured position, according to KNLA sources.
The battle continued throughout the night, with the military council employing drones for bombing attacks from the onset of the offensive. Both sides utilized various weapons including aircraft, drones, and heavy artillery during the engagement. While defensive fire from the military council position has ceased, the junta forces have conducted at least three aerial bombing runs. Additionally, artillery support fire from both Thaybawboe and Wawlay camps has complicated the resistance forces’ efforts to fully secure the captured position. The KNLA and allied forces are currently working to clear the area despite these challenges.
The Playdoh outpost had previously been captured by revolutionary forces on March 27, 2022, in a battle that resulted in approximately 60 military council casualties. The military council later recaptured and reoccupied the position, making this May 2025 operation the second time the outpost has been attacked and captured by resistance forces. Currently, the KNLA and allied forces are maintaining their siege of the military outpost in Thaybawboe village. They are also conducting coordinated operations to encircle and attack several other military council positions, including the Wawlay strategic base, Kanelay outpost, Hteekaplay outpost, and Ukayit outpost, according to confirmed KNLA sources.
