Revolutionary sources have confirmed that KNLA-led resistance forces have captured the military camp near Black Do village along the Thai-Myanmar border in Kawkareik Township, Karen State, with many junta troops fleeing to Thailand and numerous others surrendering. The attack on the Black Do military camp was carried out by combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) under KNU Brigade 6, Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO), and People’s Defense Force (PDF) at 5 PM on May 23rd.
During the battle, numerous junta soldiers were killed, with over 20 troops surrendering and approximately 25 fleeing to Thailand. The camp originally housed around 100 junta troops, with some still hiding in agricultural fields as revolutionary forces continue clearing operations. Thailand-based Matichon news agency has also confirmed approximately 60 junta personnel were killed, fled, or wounded in the battle, with many escapees crossing into Thai territory. The frontline revolutionary source reported that many dead soldiers’ bodies were found inside the camp, and clearing operations are ongoing to locate those hiding in nearby plantations.
The Black Do military camp had previously been attacked by revolutionary forces on March 27, 2022, resulting in about 60 junta casualties. However, the military council had reoccupied and fortified the position, leading to this second attack in May 2025. Currently, KNLA allied forces are also conducting siege operations against other military positions including the Thabawbo village military camp, Wallay strategic camp, Kanelay camp, Thikaplet camp, and Ukarit camp. The ongoing offensive represents a significant expansion of revolutionary forces’ operations in the region, demonstrating their growing capability to challenge military council control over strategic positions along the border area.
