Karen National Defense Organization (KNDO) Chief of Staff Major General Saw Shi Lay has warned that although they will continue armed resistance until the collapse of the terrorist leader Min Aung Hlaing’s military, the revolution is taking longer than necessary due to mutual accusations and criticisms. Speaking at the 78th Karen National Defense Organization Day commemoration ceremony, he emphasized that while KNDO remains firmly committed to achieving KNU’s vision of establishing an independent Karen state and Karen self-determination, these goals have not yet been realized.
The Chief of Staff stressed that in fighting against the terrorist military, they need to be stronger and more resilient than their opponent, emphasizing that unity is crucial. He explained that looking back at the revolution, there have been both advances and setbacks, which is why unity is essential. He clarified that their occasional setbacks are not due to the enemy’s superiority but rather due to gaps in unity and mutual understanding among revolutionary forces.
He pointed out that the revolution is being delayed because some people, after participating briefly, become discouraged and start criticizing the revolutionary movement. Those without clear objectives tend to give up when facing difficulties halfway through, and these individuals don’t simply withdraw but actively try to discourage others through criticism, leading to a decline in morale among other revolutionary fighters. He strongly urged that if everyone contributes from their respective areas of expertise while maintaining firm revolutionary goals and working together cooperatively, the revolution will succeed.
