The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) spokesperson Colonel Naw Bu has firmly denied reports circulating that KIO Chairman General N’Ban La has been detained by Chinese authorities. The statement came in response to widespread social media claims earlier today regarding the alleged detention. Colonel Naw Bu emphasized that these reports are entirely false and that there has been no indication of any such incident occurring.
Furthermore, Colonel Naw Bu clarified that reports suggesting China had demanded a halt to offensive operations in Banmaw region are also inaccurate. He explained that China’s actual communication only involved encouraging dialogue rather than military confrontation. The spokesperson detailed that fighting continues daily in the Banmaw region, with the military council conducting airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery bombardments. He confirmed that KIA and allied forces are responding to these attacks with their own artillery fire. The ongoing conflict in the region remains active, with regular exchanges of fire between both sides.
Colonel Naw Bu also addressed and dismissed reports about China suspending rare earth purchases, stating that such claims are unfounded. He confirmed that the KIO currently has no scheduled meetings or negotiations with Chinese authorities. The spokesperson further emphasized that international media reports regarding both the KIO and matters related to rare earth minerals are inaccurate. He reaffirmed the KIO’s commitment to standing with the people of Myanmar in their struggle for rights and freedom, maintaining their position against the military council’s oppressive actions. The organization continues to focus on their primary mission of protecting civilian interests and supporting the broader resistance against military rule in Myanmar.
