Since the military council’s coup, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has successfully shot down four military helicopters and one fighter jet belonging to the military council. The two Mi-17 military helicopters shot down on May 20 are estimated to be worth approximately 30 million US dollars, according to military analysts. These helicopters were crucial transport and combat vehicles for the military council’s operations, and their loss represents a significant blow to the council’s military capabilities.
In Kachin State’s Hpakant Township, combined forces of KIA and People’s Defense Forces (PDF) have successfully intercepted and engaged advancing military council columns, resulting in significant casualties on the military council’s side. The resistance forces have captured numerous weapons and ammunition, along with recovering the bodies of military council soldiers during the battles. These engagements have further weakened the military council’s control in the region and demonstrated the growing strength of resistance forces in the area.
In Karen State’s Thandaunggyi Township, revolutionary forces launched a rocket attack on the military council’s Bogyoke Aung San training facility within their garrison town. The attack resulted in the deaths of seven military council personnel, including three majors. This strike on the training facility is part of a broader strategy targeting the military council’s training infrastructure and demonstrates the increasing military capabilities of revolutionary forces in conducting precision strikes against strategic targets.
