The Kachin Independence Army (KIA)-led revolutionary forces have successfully captured the entire Inntaw Township in Sagaing Region, as confirmed by KIA frontline sources. The final offensive took place on the evening of April 7, 2024, resulting in the complete capture of Inntaw town, while the military council continued to conduct airstrikes. During the battle, the military council carried out a total of 59 aerial bombing raids, according to KIA frontline sources.
The offensive on Inntaw town began on August 16, 2024, when KIA-led revolutionary forces launched their initial attacks. By August 24, they had successfully captured several strategic positions including the Inntaw Police Station, General Administration Office, Nabhar Junction, and military outposts near the Nabhar Village monastery. Following these losses, military council troops retreated to what locals call the ‘Japanese Cave,’ which served as the forward headquarters of the 77th Division, where they established defensive positions. After more than seven months of intense fighting, revolutionary forces finally captured this last remaining stronghold at Japanese Cave Hill, effectively eliminating all military council presence from the entire Inntaw Township.
Throughout the campaign to capture Inntaw Township, revolutionary forces repeatedly intercepted military council reinforcement columns, though the resistance forces also suffered casualties in these operations, as disclosed by KIA frontline sources. While the entire Inntaw Township is now under the control of revolutionary forces, the military council continues to conduct aerial attacks in the area. The successful capture of Inntaw Township represents a significant strategic victory for the revolutionary forces, though they remain vigilant against ongoing aerial threats from the military council.
