A military council column attempting to reinforce troops from Katha Township to Inntaw Township in Sagaing Region was intercepted and attacked by joint forces of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF), resulting in 40 military council soldiers killed and 29 captured alive, according to KIA military sources. The engagement took place on March 15 and 16, when approximately 150 military council troops were attempting to move from Katha Township to provide reinforcements to Inntaw Township.
During the two days of fighting, the joint resistance forces successfully intercepted the military column, inflicting heavy casualties on the military council troops. In addition to the 40 soldiers killed and 29 captured, many others were wounded in the engagement. The entire military column was effectively destroyed and forced to retreat back to Katha Township. The resistance forces also seized a significant amount of weapons and ammunition during the operation. Currently, the allied forces are continuing their clearing operations in the area.
The KIA military source confirmed that this was a sustained two-day operation that successfully prevented the military council’s reinforcement mission. The battle’s success demonstrates the growing military capabilities and effective coordination between revolutionary forces in the region. The joint forces continue to maintain pressure on military council positions while securing captured military equipment and conducting area clearance operations. This engagement represents a significant tactical victory for the resistance forces in their ongoing struggle against the military council in the Sagaing Region.
