In a significant operation in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and People’s Defense Force (KPDF) successfully intercepted and attacked forces of the military council and the Shan State Army-North (SNA). During this operation, they captured four large combat drones, one small surveillance drone, and one vehicle. The incident occurred on the evening of August 23, near the Nam Ma River, where military council troops and SNA members were conducting operations.
According to KIA military sources, the military council forces and SNA members suffered casualties during the engagement and were forced to retreat. In a separate incident in the same township, military council forces raided Lon Khin village and arrested six civilians from a car workshop. The detained individuals were identified as Ko Zaw Min Htun, Ko Myo Zin Htun, Ko Aung Shein Min, Ko Kyaw Zaw Hein, Ko Aung Myat Oo, and Ko Thu Ra Htet Naing. As of now, these civilians have not been released from military custody.
Reports indicate that the military council forces have been operating in Hpakant Township while wearing counterfeit People’s Defense Force (KPDF) uniforms. This deceptive tactic is reportedly being employed to create confusion and misunderstanding between revolutionary forces and local civilians. However, resistance forces have informed the public to remain vigilant, noting that the weapons carried by military council troops are distinctly different from those used by revolutionary forces, making it possible to identify the imposters. This information has been circulated to help civilians distinguish between genuine resistance fighters and military council forces in disguise.
