The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied forces have successfully captured several temporary military camps and strategic positions near Laman village in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, according to Kachin military sources. The offensive operations began on August 27 when the allied forces first seized control of a Christian church that had been occupied by the military and its militia forces. Following this, on August 29, they successfully captured a strategic road junction near Laman village that had been under military control.
The military sources explained that these attacks were launched in response to the military’s offensive operations in the area. The fighting continues to intensify, with the military conducting continuous aerial surveillance and drone operations in the region. During the battles, at least ten military personnel were confirmed dead, with several others captured alive. The resistance forces also seized various weapons and ammunition from the military positions. The situation remains tense, with ongoing concerns about potential aerial attacks from the military forces.
The military council has been persistently attempting to regain control of their lost territories in Waingmaw Township through multiple approaches, including ground operations, artillery shelling, drone bombing campaigns, and airstrikes. Additionally, they have been continuously deploying troops toward the Hpakant area, escalating military activities throughout the region. These military operations have caused significant concern among local civilians, with the increasing risk of civilian casualties from airstrikes. The military’s aggressive attempts to reassert control have led to a complex situation where both ground operations and aerial attacks pose serious threats to local communities, while resistance forces continue to maintain their defensive positions and counter-offensive capabilities.
