The Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee conducted a campaign on August 12 to alert and demand international organizations that trust and provide assistance to the military council to cease their support. The campaign highlighted how the military council is misusing earthquake relief aid for violence against civilians, and how international assistance is being weaponized by the military council.
During the protest led by the People’s Strike Leading Committee, demonstrators held signs with messages stating that providing earthquake aid to the military council is effectively supporting their aerial bombardment of civilians, and that disaster relief assistance should not be used to kill people. The protesters emphasized that aid intended for earthquake victims should not become a means for the military council to further oppress the population.
The campaign highlighted that the military council has failed to effectively distribute international aid to the people, instead diverting resources to support their military operations. The committee demanded that international organizations immediately cease cooperation with the military council. This action by the Kalay People’s Strike Leading Committee aimed to expose the military council’s actions to the world and alert the international community about the misuse of humanitarian assistance. The campaign sought to raise awareness about how aid provided with good intentions is being manipulated by the military council to further their oppression of Myanmar’s civilian population.
