Justice For Myanmar has called for a boycott of three Belarusian state universities – Belarusian State University (BSU), Belarusian State University of Informatics & Radioelectronics (BSUIR), and Belarusian State Technological University (BSTU) – for providing advanced military training to Myanmar military council officers. The organization states that these universities are supporting the military’s violent actions against civilians by providing such training.
The Belarusian State University has accepted 10 students from the military council and is providing education in military law, geographical information systems, and related subjects. The University of Informatics & Radioelectronics is teaching radio-electronic engineering for air defense systems to students who are officers from military equipment production factories in Naypyidaw, Magway, and Mandalay. These facilities include Defense Equipment Factory No. 4 (Naypyidaw), Defense Equipment Factory No. 20 (Magway), and Myanmar Heavy Industries No. 10 (Mandalay).
The Belarusian State Technological University has established a military training department for ground weapons and logistics. Recently, the university’s rector met with Myanmar military generals and 34 Myanmar students who had completed advanced military studies. Since the 2021 military coup, Belarus has deepened its relationship with Myanmar’s military council and has sold a customized air defense command system to Myanmar. This collaboration has raised significant concerns about Belarus’s role in supporting the military regime’s capabilities.
Justice For Myanmar emphasizes that these Belarusian universities are not only awarding degrees to war criminals but are also enabling increased violence against civilians through their technical training programs. The organization has called on the international academic community and partner institutions to boycott these universities and protest their complicity in the military council’s brutal actions. This call for boycott represents part of broader efforts to isolate institutions that support the military regime’s ongoing campaign of violence against the Myanmar people.
