The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in Kokang Special Region 1 of Northern Shan State has officially invited Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) teachers and students to serve in their expanding basic education schools. Plans are underway to expand basic education schools in Special Region 1 for the 2025-2026 academic year. During the previous 2024-2025 academic year, 22 basic education schools were established to ensure education access for all school-age children in the region.
For the upcoming academic year, as more basic education schools are set to open, CDM teachers, university graduates, and CDM university students can apply online to work in basic education schools within Special Region 1. Additionally, the Kokang Special Region 1 has already employed CDM healthcare workers, doctors, and nurses in its healthcare sector. A CDM healthcare worker currently in Kokang Special Region 1 revealed that MNDAA not only employs CDM staff in the healthcare sector but also assigns them to positions of responsibility. The recruitment of CDM teachers and students in the education sector represents continued support for the revolution through alternative means.
The MNDAA had captured most townships in Northern Shan State through Operation 1027. However, due to Chinese intervention, they had to transfer control of Lashio city back to the military council in late April. The expansion of educational opportunities and employment of CDM personnel demonstrates the MNDAA’s commitment to establishing civilian infrastructure in areas under their control, while continuing to resist the military council’s authority through non-military means.
