
International embassies based in Yangon, including those of the European Union, Britain, Canada, Sweden, France, Norway, and Denmark, have changed their Facebook profile pictures to roses and images of the public leader to commemorate Aung San Suu Kyi’s 80th birthday. European embassies, including those of the EU, Sweden, and France, have updated their profile pictures to show Aung San Suu Kyi wearing flowers against a blue background. The British Embassy changed its profile picture to a rose image and called for the immediate release of Aung San Suu Kyi, who remains in detention.
The Canadian Embassy has updated its profile picture to include a small Myanmar flag and a rose, while the Danish Embassy has posted an image featuring roses and traditional offering bowls. The Netherlands Embassy is using the same photograph of Aung San Suu Kyi that was released by the EU Embassy. The Norwegian Embassy has also changed its profile picture to include roses and has demanded the immediate release of all those unjustly detained.
The U.S. Embassy stated that this is Aung San Suu Kyi’s fifth birthday in detention since February 2021, noting that her life and actions reflect the Myanmar people’s aspirations for peace and democracy. They called on the military regime to release all those unjustly detained, end violence against civilians, and engage with all relevant parties to end the crisis. The embassy emphasized that they continue to stand with the people of Myanmar in their struggle for democracy and human rights.
