Intense fighting has erupted between the terrorist military council forces and revolutionary forces in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, resulting in more than 10 civilian casualties due to military airstrikes and heavy artillery fire. According to a responsible official from the Myeik District Battalion 1, the clashes began on July 23 between the People’s Defense Force Myeik District Battalion 1 and allied forces against military council troops. The military council has been conducting attacks from land, sea, and air in the area.
The military council has conducted up to 14 airstrikes, while their navy and stationed battalions continue to launch heavy artillery attacks. The attacks have been deliberately targeting civilian areas, leading to numerous civilian casualties. The fighting has been particularly intense in Palaw town and surrounding villages, prompting urgent calls for local residents to evacuate to safe locations. The Myeik District Battalion 1 has issued warnings for civilians living near military council camps to immediately evacuate to secure locations, and for those trapped in their homes to seek shelter in protected areas as much as possible.
Furthermore, the public has been strongly advised to avoid traveling on the Myeik-Palaw section of Union Highway No. 8. The road will remain closed indefinitely until further notice, according to the announcement from Myeik District Battalion 1. The situation remains critical as the military council continues its offensive operations, putting civilian lives at risk through indiscriminate attacks on populated areas.
