Intense fighting continues near Hmwei Pu village in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, as the military council conducts operations in the area, resulting in significant casualties among their forces, according to KIA military sources. The battles have been ongoing for three days near Hmwei Pu village, with continuous exchanges of fire from the afternoon of the previous day through the entire current day of June 26. The fighting has been particularly intense, with neither side showing signs of letting up.
The military council has been conducting operations in the Hpakant region for nearly a month, resulting in almost daily clashes. Military sources confirm that the council forces have suffered heavy casualties, with estimates ranging between 50 to 100 soldiers killed during the past month of operations. Additionally, since the arrival of Military Division 3 forces from Moekaung, they have reportedly killed nearly 40 civilians through various acts of violence and persecution. The KIA and PDF combined forces have been actively resisting the military council’s advances, employing both heavy and light weapons in their defensive operations.
Meanwhile, in Banmaw, Kachin State, while fighting continues, it has decreased in intensity compared to previous months. However, the military council maintains regular airstrikes and drone attacks in the area, while also reinforcing their positions through air transport of weapons and troops. The council is also attempting to strengthen their position through waterway transportation, prompting warnings to villages along the Irrawaddy River to remain vigilant. The Banmaw Scout Team has reported that approximately 12 military vessels are allegedly moving upstream, though this information is still being verified. On June 15, military airstrikes and artillery attacks on Singkying village across from Banmaw resulted in the deaths of two civilians, highlighting the ongoing threat to civilian populations in the region.
