
Intense fighting has broken out in Karen State’s Kawkareik and Kyondoe townships as the military council launches multiple offensive operations in the area. Starting from June 6, the military has split into multiple columns to advance into these regions, with heavy fighting reported on June 7. The military council has been continuously conducting airstrikes and artillery attacks, according to revolutionary military sources. The offensive operations have resulted in significant casualties on the military council’s side.
On June 8 at noon, a military council fighter jet dropped two bombs on the hillside area of Kyunpine village in Kawkareik township, though no casualties were reported. However, on June 7, artillery fire from Strategic Operations Command 12 in Kawkareik township resulted in one civilian death and one injury in Yepu Gyi village. Similarly, an airstrike on Tone Tae Pin village caused injuries to four civilians, with one person seriously wounded. The military council’s Y-12 aircraft conducted bombing raids on the morning of June 9, targeting Tone Tae Pin village, Seven Mile village, Inn Gyi village, and Nwa Chan Kone village.
The military council forces have also been shelling Kamni and Kawwalae villages in Kawkareik township with artillery from Infantry Battalion 545. In their offensive operations in Kawkareik and Kyondoe, the military council has been employing various weapons including aircraft, drone bombing, and MLRS rocket barrages. Currently, intense fighting is occurring in four locations, including Nine Mile, Seven Mile, Chaung Hpa, and Tone Tae Pin villages. The military council’s aggressive tactics have included both aerial bombardment and heavy artillery strikes against civilian areas.
The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and other revolutionary forces have been actively responding to the military council’s offensive. On June 8 at around 4 PM, the KNLA launched a rocket attack on military forces stationed near Zeynamaryaung monastery near Infantry Battalion 545, resulting in injuries to six soldiers and one fatality. According to local sources, the military council’s offensive operations have caused widespread fear among local residents, with many forced to flee to safer areas. The ongoing conflict has significantly disrupted civilian life in the region, with local communities bearing the brunt of the military council’s aggressive campaign.
