Intense fighting has erupted between Ma Hlwe Taung and Kaw Hlaing villages in Dawei Township, Tanintharyi Region, leading to the closure of the Ye-Dawei highway section near Ma Hlwe Taung Klein Aung road, according to local residents and travelers. The clashes began around 4:15 PM today, with revolutionary alliance forces temporarily suspending all passenger and private vehicle traffic for safety reasons.
The fighting stems from earlier confrontations on August 13th between the military council forces and revolutionary alliance forces, which resulted in the death of 14 military personnel, including one officer, and at least 15 others wounded on the military council’s side. In response to these casualties, the military council launched a retaliatory operation with a force of over 150 troops, as confirmed by military sources from the revolutionary alliance. The ongoing clashes have significantly disrupted civilian movement and commercial transportation in the area.
The revolutionary alliance forces are prioritizing civilian safety and have advised residents to relocate away from the conflict zone. The current military operation represents an escalation in response to the previous encounters, with the military council deploying substantial forces in the area. The situation continues to develop as both sides engage in intense combat, affecting daily life and commerce in the region. Local sources report that the revolutionary forces are maintaining defensive positions while ensuring civilian protection measures are in place throughout the affected areas.
