Intense fighting has broken out between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council forces at Nyaung Kyo camp, located along the Rakhine-Bago highway (Thandwe-Pantaung road) at the foot of the Rakhine Yoma in Pantaung Township, Bago Region. The AA is launching offensive operations against the military council’s heavily fortified Nyaung Kyo camp, while the military council has been reinforcing with hundreds of troops from the Hmawbi Township military zone. As the fighting intensifies, the AA’s offensive operations continue unabated, while the military council is desperately defending its position. Due to heavy casualties on the military council’s side, they have been providing continuous air support.
The AA forces have captured Mount Mohtay along the Thandwe-Pantaung road and are continuing their assault on the Nyaung Kyo camp. During the fighting, Major Than Zaw Hein, age 36, from the military council side was killed. Three out of four infantry battalions of the military council, including IB-313, IB-701, IB-702, and IB-703, have been deployed to reinforce Nyaung Kyo. The Nyaung Kyo military camp is located 10 miles from the Nyaung Chaythauk Defense Industry No. 6, and reinforcements are being sent from both the facility and various battalions from Yangon and Bago. The military council is sending large numbers of new recruits from Training Batch 8 from across the country to Defense Industry No. 6, with over 600 new soldiers deployed for the facility and route security.
In Bago Region, besides Defense Industry No. 6, there are several other defense industry facilities including No. 9 (Kyauktaga), No. 5 (Kyamying), No. 16 (Mathon), and No. 3 (Sinthe) across the river from Pyay. The military council is preparing defensive positions at Nyaung Chaythauk, Oshitpin, and Defense Industry No. 6 to prevent the fall of Nyaung Kyo camp. Meanwhile, the AA is also conducting offensive operations against military council positions near Sittwe city in Rakhine State, as well as some military posts near the Danyawaddy Naval Base in Kyaukphyu Township.
