Intense fighting has erupted between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council forces at Nyaung Kyo camp, located along the Rakhine-Bago highway (Thandwe-Pantaung road) at the foot of the Rakhine Yoma in Pantaung Township, Bago Region. The AA is launching offensive operations against the heavily fortified Nyaung Kyo camp, where the military council has positioned heavy artillery. In response, the military council has reinforced its positions with hundreds of troops from the Hmawbi Township military command.
As the fighting intensifies and military council casualties mount, continuous air support has been necessary. The military council has deployed three out of four infantry battalions – IB 313, IB 701, IB 702, and IB 703 – to Nyaung Kyo, along with additional reinforcements from Yangon and Bago battalions. Furthermore, over 600 new recruits from Training Batch 8 have been dispatched to Defense Industry 6 and for route security at Nyaung Chaik Htauk. The military council is making extensive efforts to maintain control of the area, with defensive preparations at multiple locations including Nyaung Chaik Htauk, Ohsit Pin, and Defense Industry 6.
The AA’s offensive comes after their capture of Moe Htee Mountain along the Thandwe-Pantaung road. During the fighting, Major Thant Zaw Hein, age 36, from the military council forces was killed. The military council has established multiple defense industries in Bago Region, including Defense Industry 6, Defense Industry 9 (Kyauk Phyu), Defense Industry 5 (Kamyaing), Defense Industry 16 (Mathon), and Defense Industry 3 (Sin Tae) across from Pyay city. The AA is simultaneously conducting offensive operations against military council positions near Sittwe city in Rakhine State and some outposts near the Danyawady Naval Base in Kyaukphyu Township, demonstrating their capability to engage in multiple fronts.
