Intense fighting has erupted between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council forces at Nyaung Kyo camp, located along the Rakhine-Bago highway (Thandwe-Pantaung road) in the Rakhine Yoma foothills of Pantaung Township, Bago Region. The AA is launching offensive operations against the military council’s heavily fortified Nyaung Kyo camp, while the military council has been reinforcing its positions with hundreds of troops from the Hmawbi Township military command.
As the fighting intensifies, the military council has been forced to provide continuous air support due to heavy casualties on their side. Three out of four infantry battalions – IB 313, IB 701, IB 702, and IB 703 – have been deployed to reinforce Nyaung Kyo. Additional reinforcements are also being sent from battalions in Yangon and Bago. The military council has deployed over 600 new recruits from training batch 8 to the Defense Products Industry 6 (Ka Pa Sa 6) factory from across the country. The military council’s Nyaung Kyo camp is located about 10 miles from Ka Pa Sa 6, which has been receiving continuous reinforcements.
The AA captured Mount Mohtee along the Thandwe-Pantaung road before launching its offensive on Nyaung Kyo camp. During the fighting, Major Thant Zaw Hein, age 36, from the military council side was killed. The military council is mounting defensive operations from Nyaung Chaik Htauk, Ohhtpin, and Ka Pa Sa 6 to prevent the fall of Nyaung Kyo camp. In Bago Region, there are several defense industry facilities including Ka Pa Sa 6, Ka Pa Sa 9 (Kyauktaga), Ka Pa Sa 5 (Kamyaing), Ka Pa Sa 16 (Mathon), and Ka Pa Sa 3 (Sinthe) across the river from Pyay. The AA is also conducting offensive operations against military council positions near Sittwe city in Rakhine State, as well as some outposts near the Danyawaddy naval base in Kyaukphyu Township.
