A truck bearing the insignia and flag of the Karenni State Progressive Party (KSPP) was detained for inspection while passing through military council checkpoints on the concrete road at Karen Stream Bridge in Taungoo Township, Bago Region. According to an official from Battalion 3504 based in Yedashe Township, the incident occurred at approximately 5:45 PM on June 7th, when members of People’s Defense Force Battalion 3504, Company 1 were conducting territorial security operations in the area. The vehicle had reportedly passed through military council checkpoints with unusual ease, which raised suspicions among the inspecting forces.
Upon inspection, the authorities found the truck carrying a driver and an assistant, along with 125 bags of rice and various other food supplies. The vehicle displayed the KSPP insignia and flag on its windshield, and investigators noted bullet damage to the area directly in front of the steering wheel. Additional items discovered during the inspection included KSPP uniforms, a scarf, a cap, and various KSPP-issued documents including travel permits and authentication papers. The presence of these items, combined with the ease with which the vehicle had passed through military checkpoints, led to its detention by the People’s Defense Force personnel.
The responsible official from Battalion 3504 confirmed that all detained persons and materials were subsequently transferred to the custody of the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 2 Permanent Committee and territorial authorities in Thandaung Township. The transfer of custody was conducted in two phases, with the driver and assistant being handed over on June 9th, followed by the transfer of remaining materials on June 16th. Battalion 3504 has explicitly stated that they conducted no misappropriation of any detained items or persons, and that all subsequent responsibility for the case now rests with the KNU Brigade 2 Permanent Committee members and territorial authorities who accepted the transfer.
