
Local residents and charity group members from Kyaukme reported that an internally displaced person (IDP), U Soe Maung, was killed by artillery fire and drone strikes launched by the military forces in northern Shan State’s Kyaukme Township. The incident occurred around 2 PM on August 29, when the military fired artillery shells at Khaik Tun Hone village in Kyaukme Township, resulting in the immediate death of 51-year-old U Soe Maung when he was struck by artillery fire. According to local sources, U Soe Maung had been displaced due to ongoing fighting and was killed while temporarily returning home to collect rice and oil supplies for his family.
The military continues to launch sustained artillery and drone attacks throughout Kyaukme Township, with shells and drone bombs striking various locations including Kyaukme town, Na Aik Khan village tract, and areas near the mountain and village entrance opposite Lway Kaw village’s shrine along Union Highway. Additionally, local sources confirmed that the military has recaptured Naung Pin village and the Goke Hteik Bridge. The military’s offensive operations have caused widespread fear among local residents, with many forced to flee to safer locations. The ongoing attacks have significantly impacted civilian life in the area, with residents facing increasing challenges in accessing basic necessities while trying to avoid military strikes.
