According to a statement released by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), U Aung Soe Min, a Member of Parliament from Hpa-An Township constituency in the Danu Self-Administered Zone of Shan State, has died in a military interrogation center after being arrested by the military council. U Aung Soe Min was arrested by military forces in December 2024 while in hiding in Pyin Oo Lwin city and passed away in the interrogation center several months ago. The CRPH strongly condemned the military council for this death.
Currently, among those detained by the military council are President U Win Myint, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and other elected parliamentary representatives, raising serious concerns about their health conditions. Due to torture, mistreatment, and lack of adequate medical care by the military council, three regional parliament representatives have already lost their lives while in prison. In June 2022, Mon State Parliament representative U Kyaw Myo Min was also brutally killed by military forces at a roadside location after being arrested. According to the latest available information, 11 Union Parliament representatives and 13 state/regional parliament representatives who were in hiding have died due to lack of proper medical treatment.
Currently, many other elected parliamentary representatives and their family members continue to seek refuge in neighboring countries and other nations, while their homes and properties have been seized by the military council. As of now, the military council continues to detain 18 Union-level parliament representatives and 41 state/regional parliament representatives. These ongoing detentions and the treatment of elected officials highlight the continuing crisis in Myanmar under military rule, with many representatives forced to flee their homes and abandon their properties while facing the constant threat of arrest and persecution by the military council.
