
Houses are burning in Naung Pein village, Kyaukme Township, Shan State, following airstrikes by the military council forces, while intense ground battles continue in the area. On the morning of August 23, military council forces conducted aerial bombardments on Naung Pein village, resulting in houses catching fire. The extent of civilian casualties remains unconfirmed according to local sources.
The military council forces have been conducting daily airstrikes on Naung Pein village using Y-12 aircraft and fighter jets, along with heavy artillery bombardments. Local civilians have been forced to flee to safer locations due to the military council’s aerial attacks. Since August 19, when military council troops arrived at Thanpin village, located just over a mile from Naung Pein village, they have been launching daily artillery attacks on Naung Pein village.
Daily clashes continue between military council forces and revolutionary forces near Naung Pein village, with military council troops firing indiscriminately from within Thanpin village and unable to move their column out of the area. Additionally, on August 20, military council forces conducted an airstrike on a monastery in Pinhtee village, Kyaukme Township, resulting in the deaths of 10 internally displaced civilians and seriously injuring 12 others. The Shan Students’ Union and Tai Youth organization have strongly condemned the military council’s targeting of civilians in these attacks.
