The People’s Defense Force (CM-SRDF) has confirmed that an attack on the Air Force Base Headquarters in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region, using an advanced suicide drone, resulted in the deaths of Military Officer Moe Wai Kyaw and one soldier. The attack, which took place on the evening of June 9, was carried out as part of the Ohteinwin Village Operation. The suicide drone used in the attack was equipped with advanced technology capable of bypassing the military council’s jamming systems and successfully hit the air force base’s guard post with precision.
The soldier killed in the attack, Phyo Ko Ko, was previously stationed on the Rakhine State frontline before being transferred to Hmawbi. The attack also resulted in injuries to six military family members inside the base, though their exact conditions could not be confirmed. The resistance forces emphasized that all casualties were limited to military personnel and their family members within the base, with no civilian casualties reported.
The operation was jointly conducted by the People’s Defense Force and Battalion 15 of the Shwebo District, with all resistance fighters successfully withdrawing from the operation without casualties. While the military council’s media outlets have been claiming civilian casualties, the resistance forces have confirmed through their operational records that no civilians were harmed during the attack.
This attack comes in response to the military council’s earlier airstrike on a school in Ohteinwin Village, Depaeyin Township, Sagaing Region, on May 12, which killed 24 people, including children and teachers, and injured more than 100 others. The resistance forces have announced their intention to continue carrying out retaliatory operations as part of their broader campaign for nationwide liberation, calling on civilians to maintain their resilience during this period of conflict.
