A group blood donation event was successfully held at Mae Sot General Hospital on June 19 to commemorate the 80th birthday of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, organized by the Overseas Irrawaddy Association (OIA). This blood donation event is an annual tradition of the OIA, but this year it held special significance as it coincided with Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday celebration.
The blood donation event saw participation from over 100 people, including Myanmar citizens, migrant workers, and refugees residing in the Mae Sot area, making a significant contribution to the hospital’s blood bank. The donors showed their support for Aung San Suu Kyi’s democratic movement by wearing blue and white clothing, colors associated with the democracy movement in Myanmar.
This blood donation event not only demonstrated the unity of Myanmar people but also reflected the humanitarian spirit of Myanmar citizens living in the Thai-Myanmar border region. Participants at the ceremony offered prayers and well-wishes for Aung San Suu Kyi’s health and longevity, while also reaffirming their commitment to continue working towards democracy in Myanmar.
