A grenade attack occurred at the administrative office in Sanchaung Township’s South Ward, Yangon, followed by military patrols throughout the township, according to local residents and resistance groups. The attack took place around 11:50 AM on May 19, when revolutionary forces launched a grenade at the administrative office, reportedly injuring one military council soldier inside the building. The attack was carried out by resistance groups THE BLOODLINE and YANGON ARMY (YA).
The resistance groups have announced their intention to continue targeting the military council’s administrative mechanisms and locations involved in election-related activities. Following the attack, military and police vehicles conducted extensive patrols from noon until 2 PM, searching even small streets including Panwaing and Linlun roads – an unusual occurrence as security forces typically avoid entering smaller streets. Local residents noted this departure from normal patrol patterns, emphasizing how the security forces expanded their search area beyond main roads.
The targeted administrative office in Sanchaung South Ward serves as a crucial location for the military council’s administrative operations and serves as a gathering point for ward administrators, military council supporters, and informants. The resistance groups have warned civilians to avoid such locations, stating they cannot guarantee safety for anyone associated with the military council’s administrative mechanisms. The attack was described as a final warning against those participating in the military council’s administrative structure, with resistance groups emphasizing their commitment to dismantling the military council’s support network throughout the region.
