A robbery occurred at Tit Shin Gold Shop located on Maha Bandula Road in downtown Yangon’s Pansodan Township. The incident took place around 8:45 AM on March 23, where an undisclosed amount of gold items were stolen, according to Yangon gold merchants. The targeted shop was situated in Room 7 at 507/509, between Shwebontha Street and 28th Street. Police and military authorities are currently investigating the incident, which occurred despite increased security measures in the area.
According to a Yangon gold merchant close to the shop, while gold items were indeed stolen during the robbery, the exact quantity remains unknown. The shop owner is currently pursuing legal action regarding the incident. Local residents reported that the robbery occurred suddenly in the early morning hours, and the public only became aware of it after the fact. A resident from 29th Street in Pansodan confirmed that approximately four individuals were involved in the robbery, and no one was aware of the incident as it was taking place.
Notably, this incident occurred during a period of heightened security measures in preparation for Armed Forces Day on March 27. During this time, military and police forces had increased their security operations throughout the city, conducting both day and night patrols. However, despite these intensified security measures, the robbery still took place in the heart of downtown Yangon, raising concerns among city residents. This incident has prompted questions about the effectiveness of the current security situation in the city, particularly given that it occurred in an area under heavy surveillance and security presence.
