According to KNLA sources, four civilians, including two children, were injured when the military council’s aircraft bombed Kwee Lay Su village and its school located on Dawna mountain in Kawkareik District, Karen State, on the evening of May 29. The attack occurred at 6:40 PM when two military council fighter jets deliberately targeted the area where there was no active fighting taking place.
One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition, and the school building sustained significant damage. However, since the school had not yet reopened, no students were present during the attack. Local sources indicate that these deliberate attacks on civilian areas by the military council are in response to the continuous offensive operations by KNLA-led joint forces against military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border.
Currently, as the military council is unable to prevent the loss of their military outposts, they have resorted to targeting civilian areas with airstrikes. Local residents report that these attacks continue to result in civilian casualties, deaths, and destruction of homes. The military council’s strategy of attacking civilian targets represents an escalation in their response to the successful operations of resistance forces in the border areas, leading to increased suffering among the civilian population who have no involvement in the conflict.
