A clash between the military council forces from Infantry Battalion 258 based in Seikphyu town, Magway Region, and People’s Defense Force (PDF) resulted in the death of four military council soldiers, according to a PDF official from Seikphyu. The incident occurred when approximately 150 military council troops from Infantry Battalion 258 left their base around 7 AM on April 13 and were engaged by PDF forces near Kan Thit village. The firefight lasted about 30 minutes with both sides exchanging fire intensively.
During the battle, four military council soldiers were killed. Although the PDF forces attempted to retrieve the weapons from the fallen soldiers, they were forced to withdraw due to the military council’s superior numbers. The following day, on April 14, the military council deployed another column of about 100 troops toward Kan Thit village, but they retreated by evening. The military movements have forced local civilians to flee their homes and seek shelter in safer locations. The military council continues to conduct air surveillance over the Seikphyu area and has carried out bombing raids on Yelay Island, despite their claims about ceasefire negotiations.
The engagement was a joint operation between the Seikphyu Township PDF and Battalion 9 of the Pakokku District. All PDF members successfully withdrew from the area without any casualties. Local sources report that despite the military council’s public statements about ceasefire agreements, they continue to conduct military operations in the area, including regular air surveillance and bombing campaigns. The ongoing military activities have created a humanitarian crisis as civilians are forced to evacuate their homes and villages to avoid being caught in the crossfire. The PDF maintains its defensive positions while prioritizing civilian safety in their operations against the military council forces.
