
Local residents report that four civilians were severely injured when artillery shells fired by the military hit residential areas in Hpakant, Kachin State. The incident occurred around 12:30 AM on August 27, when the military base stationed on Strategic Hill in Hpakant fired 120mm artillery shells. The shells struck civilians living in the Middle Camp of Swut Ein Yan and Myay Zar Myaw Taik Camp areas of Hpakant Township.
Among the injured, Daw Kawng Naw sustained shrapnel wounds to her right shoulder, while Ma Ngay suffered injuries to one of her eyes. Daw Thida Win sustained severe fractures to both legs and one arm, requiring amputation. U Ta Kaw was hit in the waist and abdomen by shrapnel and is currently unconscious in critical condition. All injured victims have been taken to Lone Khin Kyay Zu Taw Clinic in Hpakant for medical treatment.
According to local residents, there was no fighting in the area at the time of the shelling, indicating deliberate targeting by the military. Blood donors are urgently needed for the victim requiring amputation. Records show that similar military attacks in the Hpakant area over recent months have resulted in more than 70 civilian deaths and over 100 injuries.
