
Local residents report that four civilians, including two children, were killed when the terrorist military council troops conducting operations along the Kawkareik-Kyondoe road in Karen State fired upon civilians returning to their village. On the evening of July 25, military council troops from Kyondoe town fired heavy weapons that struck Naung Taman village, resulting in the immediate deaths of 12-year-old Saw Tin Lay and a 10-year-old child, while another person was injured in the attack.
Similarly, on July 24, two villagers returning from Five Mile village were shot and killed by military council troops without any questioning or investigation. Man Kyaw Sha La, age 45, was shot in the back and killed instantly while returning by motorcycle near the phone shop on Five Mile Yaypu Road. Man Ah Klike, age 44, was also killed by military troops near the fruit shop in Five Mile village. The military council troops placed the bodies of Man Kyaw Sha La and Man Ah Klike at the Five Mile village clinic and refused to allow family members to perform funeral rites.
After ammunition arrived at Military Operations Command 12 in Kawkareik from Kyondoe, the military has been continuously firing heavy weapons since the evening of July 25 toward areas including upper Miphalay village, lower Bohtae village, Sawhay village, Michaungyin, and along the old Myawaddy road. Local residents report that the military council troops conducting operations along the Kawkareik-Kyondoe road have been firing indiscriminately at civilians without any questioning or verification, while also launching repeated artillery attacks on villages. A local resident stated that four people, including two children, have been killed so far due to the military’s attacks using both heavy weapons and small arms.
