
A former soldier was shot dead after returning from the military council’s people’s militia training in Kyainseikgyi Township, Karen State, according to local sources. The incident occurred on September 15 near Peace Road entrance in Kyaing Gyi village, Kyainseikgyi Township, when the former soldier known as Baw Gyi was returning home from the military council’s people’s militia training when he was attacked by unidentified armed assailants.
During the incident, Baw Gyi sustained six gunshot wounds and died on the spot. His body was buried the following day on September 16. The shooting took place in a neighborhood alley approximately 100 feet from a Border Guard Force (BGF) checkpoint near the military camp in Kyainseikgyi town. The deceased, Baw Gyi, was identified as the husband of Pyusawthi leader Ma Kular Ma and was known to be collaborating with the military council while attending people’s militia training programs.
According to local sources, two unidentified armed individuals on a motorcycle fired eight shots, with six hitting the target. No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions in the region as the military council continues to recruit and train local militia forces while facing resistance from various armed groups opposing their rule. The location of the incident, near both military and BGF installations, underscores the complex security situation in the area.
