In Thaton, Mon State, a former soldier Kyaw Zaw and his daughter-in-law Nway Nway Win were killed during a confrontation with resistance forces while they were assisting the military council in forcibly recruiting young people for military service. On March 19 at around 11 AM, revolutionary forces conducted a raid on the house of ward administrator Kyaw Thu Hein, located on Bo Bwar Yeik Thar Street adjacent to the Air Defense Base in Nan Khe Ward, Thaton.
During the raid, while ward administrator Kyaw Thu Hein was not present and managed to escape, the revolutionary forces arrested his father, former soldier Kyaw Zaw, and his wife Nway Nway Win. During their transport, Kyaw Zaw attempted to resist by seizing a weapon from one of the resistance fighters, while Nway Nway Win tried to escape by jumping from the vehicle. In the ensuing confrontation, both were shot and killed during the attempt to apprehend them.
The deceased Kyaw Zaw was a former military serviceman who had been working as an informant for the military council, actively involved in recruiting young people for forced military service and identifying the locations of youth residences. Nway Nway Win, leveraging her husband’s position as ward administrator, had been involved in oppressing local residents in the ward. The resistance forces seized evidence from Kyaw Thu Hein’s residence, including his ward administrator appointment letter, military-related documents, lottery sale records, high-interest loan records, gold vouchers, and a motorcycle.
A spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force stated that they will continue to take action against informants and those assisting in the forced recruitment of young people for military service in Thaton. The group emphasized that they had previously issued multiple warnings through various channels for such individuals to cease their activities against the public, but were forced to take action due to continued violations. The resistance forces confirmed they will maintain operations against remaining military council supporters, ward administrators, and those involved in forced recruitment activities in the Thaton area.
