The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and other Ta’ang national groups, which control 12 townships including cities in northern Shan State and Mogok in Mandalay Region, have announced the formation of the Ta’ang Land Council to establish a revolutionary government. A three-day high-level political conference was held in a location in Ta’ang territory, attended by representatives from the Ta’ang National Party, Palaung State Liberation Front, and Ta’ang civil society organizations.
During the conference, it was decided to transform the Ta’ang Political Consultative Committee (TPCC) into the Ta’ang Land Council (TLC), which will participate in the revolutionary movement. The meeting, held from June 1 to 3, also approved the ‘Revolutionary Government Program’ drafted by the Ta’ang State Constitution Drafting Committee. The council officials confirmed that this marks a significant step in their participation in the broader revolutionary movement against the military regime.
The Ta’ang Land Council will be led by General Tar Aik Bong as Chairman, with Lway Moe Kham, Tar Aye Maung, General Tar Khu Lann, Tar Aung Pe, Tar Kya Htun, Lway Moe Hlaing, Lway Poe Kamae Kyaw, and Major Lway Ye serving as Vice-Chairpersons and members. The council has been established as the highest political authority during the revolutionary period in Ta’ang territory, with a clear mandate to coordinate resistance efforts and govern liberated areas.
The Ta’ang Land Council plans to establish a people’s government by 2025, incorporating representatives from the three main groups along with appropriate public representatives based on territorial considerations. The council has also declared its commitment to working with other Myanmar revolutionary forces to build a federal union. This initiative represents a significant development in the organization of ethnic resistance forces and their contribution to the broader struggle for democracy and federalism in Myanmar. The council emphasized its dedication to coordinating with other revolutionary forces across Myanmar in the collective effort to establish a genuine federal democratic union.
